Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and one of the largest freshwater lakes in Europe. It has an elongated shape, measuring 79 km. Hungary is the beach. All around there are a number of cities and towns. It is only hours from Budapest, and the road is a motorway, with two and three lanes in each direction.
In this lake every summer come Germans, Austrians, Croatians and, of course, many Hungarians. The truth that we were very surprised because if you know Budapest, the face of these cities surrounding the lake have nothing to do with the imperial aspect of the Hungarian capital. They are modern cities with good infrastructure and even not so cheap. It takes time out for its quality tourism. Of course, this happens mainly in the cities of the south of the lake, which are the most touristy. In the north there are other populations, but most historic and rural areas.
The lake has plenty of water and every year loses a little more, which means that to cover up the neck you should walk at least a mile. This to me was very curious. You can knock down or sit in the sun. And of course, being a lake, no waves, and do not sting the eyes or that you need to shower just outside the dip, as it is fresh water. In addition, there are green beaches. Instead of sand had grass well trimmed and neat, like a pool, so this is an advantage for those who do not like the sand of the beach. One of the cities of Balaton especially suitable for young, fun and night life is Sziofok. I called the Ibiza of the East. Beside the lake, for several miles, at night, no more than pubs and clubs.
