The Museum of Ethnography of Hungary, opposite the Parliament, is one of the first specialized museums of Europe. Born 5 March 1872. Its predecessor was the National Museum’s ethnographic collection in Hungary consisted of works of West Asia and the Urals.

In the early twentieth century the museum was considered one of the museums of Europe líders. Here Vikar worked Béla, who was among the first collectors of folk songs in the world.

The musicians Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály and Lajtha László, who conducted research at the museum folk musician, continued their work. The collections were extended due to travel of Hungarian folklore, so they came parts of New Guinea, Kamerun, Liberia, Central-Asia, Siberia, Mongolia, Indonesia and Australia.

The permanent exhibition called The traditional culture of the Hungarian people, was opened in 1991 and is a most spectacular, full of color, presented the whole Hungarian-speaking area in 13 halls through pieces from the eighteenth century until the late First World War.

The other important collections are the collection of sacral art, gypsy folklore, customs and games or shepherds. The building itself is a lovely work of art, facade and sculptures edestacan s and at first glance.
